WHITE ROSE - Cornwall & Devon

The White Rose, sunk in 1924, is one of those wrecks that just hums with history, even at a mere 4 metres. We love it because it’s so accessible, a perfect dip when the sea's a bit frisky elsewhere. You’ll spend your time here picking out the details of the old cargo coaster, especially the twisted bow section and the engine room. It’s remarkably intact for such a shallow wreck, a testament to the cold, calmer waters of the English Channel. Visibility can be a mixed bag, as it often is in British waters, but on a good day, the light streaming down onto the wreck is fantastic. We’ve had some cracking dives here, finding spider crabs tucked into crevices and juvenile pollack darting through the broken plating. It’s our favourite spot for a relaxed second dive or for divers getting comfortable with wreck penetration in very benign conditions. Keep an eye out for dogfish eggs secured to the wreckage; they’re often overlooked but always a neat find.
