WOODHAM - Cornwall & Devon

The Woodham, what a treat. This steamship, sunk way back in 1873, sits in incredibly shallow water, often less than a metre deep, depending on the tide. We love it because it’s a proper hands-on experience, less a dive, more a snorkel or even a wade, making it perfect for anyone curious about maritime history without needing a full dive kit. You'll spot the unmistakable outline of the hull, and if you’re patient, you can trace the ribs and plating that remain. The real joy here is the intertidal life. We’ve spent hours peering into crevices, watching crabs scuttle for cover, and finding anemones clinging to the rusty metal. The boiler is a particularly good spot, often covered in green and brown algae, with small blennies darting in and out. It’s an easy, accessible insight into a Victorian wreck, and our favourite way to connect with a piece of history on a sunny afternoon. Just be sure to go at low tide for the best visibility and access.
