FLYING WIZARD - Scottish West Coast

The Flying Wizard wreck, just off the Scottish West Coast, is a fantastic dive if you’re into proper, atmospheric wreck diving at a manageable depth. We love this site because it’s a tug, and you can really get a sense of its working life even after being down since '71. She sits upright, pretty much intact, which is always a bonus, and the max depth of 13m means longer bottom times. You can swim through the wheelhouse, which is our favourite part, feeling the slight pull of the current as you pass through where the captain once stood. Around the deck, we’ve found decent-sized conger eels tucked into crevices, and the whole structure is covered in plumose anemones, creating these soft, white carpets that sway gently. It’s a great spot for photographers looking for something a bit moody, and we'd suggest hitting it on a slack tide for the best visibility, which, let's be honest, can be variable in these parts.
