GOLDEN HARVEST - Scottish West Coast

The Golden Harvest isn't your typical pretty wreck dive, but we love it for its sheer character. This old fishing vessel, just 22.9 metres long, got itself stranded on the Eileanan Dubha rocks near Kyle Akin and then, rather dramatically, slipped into deeper water. Today, she rests upright at a shallow nine metres, making her incredibly accessible, even for newer wreck divers. We’d suggest hitting this site on a slack tide, especially if you want to poke around inside – the currents here can be a bit frisky. What you'll find is a wreck heavily colonised by the local cold-water critters. The bridge structure is mostly gone, but the hull remains surprisingly intact, draped in dead man's fingers and colourful anemones. Keep an eye out for inquisitive wrasse darting in and out of the hold, and we've often spotted some chunky velvet swimming crabs scuttling across the deck plates. It's a proper Scottish wreck, moody and full of life, rather than being polished clean. Definitely our pick for a quick, rewarding plunge when you're in the area.
