HMS Untamed - Scottish West Coast

The HMS Untamed wreck is a profound experience, a U-class submarine from 1942, now resting on the seabed off the Scottish West Coast. It’s a dive that speaks to history, not just marine life. We often find the visibility here to be surprisingly good, especially on a calm day, allowing you to really appreciate the submarine's lines and the scale of it. Dropping down, the Untamed reveals itself slowly, a dark shape against the gloom. You can make out the conning tower, the torpedo tubes, and the sheer bulk of it, a stark reminder of its past. We love how the metalwork has become a canvas for the cold-water corals and anemones, especially the plumose anemones, which bloom like ghostly flowers from every surface. Look closely in the nooks and crannies for squat lobsters and the occasional dogfish. This isn't a dive for bright colours, but for atmospheric exploration and a genuine connection to history. We'd suggest checking the tide tables carefully; slack water makes the penetration a lot more comfortable if you're qualified and keen to explore the interior. It’s a dive that truly resonates, a sombre beauty beneath the waves.
