HMSM SEALION - Scottish West Coast

The HMSM *Sealion* is one of those deeper Clyde wrecks that truly gets under your skin. We love it because it’s a proper submarine dive, not just a heap of metal, and at 60 metres, it’s a serious undertaking for competent technical divers. Dropping down, you’ll start to pick out the distinct silhouette of the S-class sub, surprisingly intact given its age. What we really enjoy here is the penetration. You can cautiously explore sections of the conning tower and the forward torpedo tubes, imagining the crew’s cramped quarters. The *Sealion* has become a fantastic artificial reef too. Ling, conger eels, and cod are often tucked away in its nooks and crannies, and you’ll spot plumose anemones clinging to every surface, waving gently in the current. It’s a cold dive, even in summer, so drysuits and thick undersuits are a must, but the rewards are absolutely worth the chill. A good dive plan and solid gas management are key to enjoying this piece of history.
