MAID OF HARRIS - Scottish West Coast

The Maid of Harris is a proper old girl, broken into two main sections but still very much a wreck, not just a pile of rubble. We love that she's so shallow, meaning you get fantastic light penetration on sunny days, turning the stern section into a golden cathedral. Dropping onto the deck, you’ll likely spook a few pollack darting from the holds, and we often find inquisitive conger eels peeking from beneath twisted metal plates. For photographers, it’s brilliant; the way the light plays on the kelp-draped bow is just stunning, and you can spend ages picking out nudibranchs and anemones that have colonised every surface. The engine room is accessible if you’re comfortable with overheads and have a good torch, but even just finning around the superstructure, you get a real sense of her former life as a fishing vessel. It’s a dive for anyone who appreciates character over coral, and a great one to combine with a shore picnic when the weather plays ball.
