MARJORIE SEED - Scottish West Coast

The Marjorie Seed, found off Lady Isle in Ayr Bay, is a proper chunk of history for anyone who loves a good wreck dive. We’re talking about an 85-metre steamship that went down on Christmas Day, 1924, on its way from Glasgow to Huelva. It’s a big, imposing hulk, and even though it’s been down there for a century, there’s still plenty of structure to explore. We love picking out the details of its industrial past, imagining the journey it never completed. The wreck sits at a maximum depth of 20 metres, making it accessible for a decent bottom time. Visibility here can be variable, as with much of the Scottish west coast, but on a good day, the sheer scale of the ship becomes apparent. You’ll find the usual suspects making a home in its steel framework: plenty of squat lobsters tucked into crevices, dabs of jewel anemones clinging to the darker corners, and often, we’ve seen some decent-sized pollack cruising the upper decks. It’s a dive that rewards careful exploration, slowly picking your way through the remains of a working vessel. Definitely one for those who appreciate the story behind the steel.
