MISTY BLUE - Scottish West Coast

The Misty Blue, a small fishing vessel that went down in 2007, is one of our favourite shallow wrecks on the Scottish West Coast. Resting upright at a gentle 11 metres, she’s a perfect spot for divers looking for a relaxed exploration, especially if you’re trying out drysuit diving or just fancy a longer bottom time. The wheelhouse is still largely intact, a real treat for poking around, and the whole wreck is now a proper home for critters. We’ve often found squat lobsters tucked into every crevice, little blennies peering out from the scupper holes, and plenty of plumose anemones waving like tiny white flags from the rails. The deck has a few openings where you can peer inside; it’s dark but you can usually make out the ghostly shapes of the internal structure. Visibility here can be a bit variable, as it often is in Scotland, but even on a greener day, the wreck’s small size means you can still get a good sense of her. We love the way she sits on the seabed, looking almost ready to motor off, just without the crew. It’s a gentle introduction to wreck diving, with enough character to keep you engaged without feeling overwhelming. Definitely one to factor into a West Coast trip.
