NIPAROUND - Scottish West Coast

The NIPAROUND sits right alongside Inveraray Pier, which makes for one of the easiest wreck dives you’ll ever do. We love this site for its accessibility and the quiet melancholy of its story. This old tug, just 21 metres long, found its resting place after flooding up back in 1982, a tragic incident that claimed two lives. Sliding into the dark, still waters, you’re greeted by the ghostly outline of the tug. It’s shallow, just 10 metres, so you get plenty of bottom time to really explore. The wheelhouse is still largely intact, and we often find ourselves peering through the empty window frames, imagining the last moments. Over the decades, the NIPAROUND has become a real haven for local marine life. You’ll spot crabs scuttling over the deck plating and often see small shoals of pollack darting in and out of the superstructure. It’s a contemplative dive, perfect for those calm days when you want something accessible and full of character. We’d suggest going at high tide for the best visibility, which, let’s be honest, in a Scottish sea loch, is always a relative term.
