PETIT POISSON - Scottish West Coast

Petit Poisson is a wreck that really delivers, especially for those of us who appreciate a good story with our dives. We first dived her in a brisk September, the light filtering green through the water, giving the whole site a wonderfully atmospheric feel. This 16.5m fishing vessel ran ashore in ’86, and now she sits upright against Ardmore Point, easily accessible. You can poke around the wheelhouse, which is still fairly intact, and we love peeking into the holds, often finding conger eels lurking in the shadows. Look for the prop, it’s usually swarming with juvenile pollock. The real joy here is how the local life has completely adopted the wreck; you’ll see plumose anemones waving like flags from every surface, and always a few inquisitive wrasse darting in and out of the plating. It’s not a deep dive, making it perfect for an extended rummage or even a second dive of the day, and it’s a brilliant introduction to Scottish wreck diving without the usual deep-water chill.
