RAYLIGHT - Scottish West Coast

The Raylight, off Skye, is one of those wrecks that just pulls you in. We love its dramatic story, grounding in thick fog and sinking in ten minutes back in '75. You can almost feel that cold urgency when you drop down onto her. She’s not massive, just under 30 metres, but she sits upright at around 30 metres, mostly intact, which is always a bonus. We’ve found the stern section particularly photogenic, with the rudder and prop often visible. The bow is a bit more broken up, but there are plenty of nooks and crannies for curious divers. Visibility here can be a bit of a mixed bag, as it often is on the West Coast, but when it's good, say 10 metres, the light penetration through the kelp dancing above the wreck is something else. Look closely and you'll spot plenty of wrasse darting in and out, and we've often seen ling tucked away in darker corners. She's a good dive for those comfortable with deeper wrecks and a bit of current, offering a tangible link to a moment in maritime history.
