U 218 - Scottish West Coast

Diving the U 218 off Scotland's west coast offers a potent mix of history and exploration. This U-boat, scuttled during Operation Deadlight, lies upright at 57 metres, largely intact. We've found the conning tower still identifiable, and you can often peer into parts of the control room through open hatches. While not a coral reef, the wreck itself has become a habitat, with squat lobsters hiding in crevices and anemones clinging to the metal. It’s a dive for those comfortable with deeper wrecks and the colder water, rewarding a slow, deliberate exploration of a piece of wartime history.
