WANDERER - Scottish West Coast

The Wanderer isn't the biggest wreck on the Scottish West Coast, not by a long shot, but it’s one of our favourites for a proper deep dive. She’s an 8.8-metre fishing vessel, sitting upright at 51 metres, and remarkably intact. Dropping down, you’ll see her mast still standing proud, reaching up into the gloom. We love hovering over the wheelhouse, imagining the chaos on that July day in '92 when her engine room flooded. What makes her special? The sheer sense of preservation at that depth. You can peer into the holds, see winches, and even spot the remains of fishing gear. The low light at 50m gives everything a muted, ethereal quality, and the wreck itself is a haven for life. Look for squat lobsters tucked into every crevice, and plumose anemones waving like ghostly flags from the railings. It’s a challenging dive, certainly, best suited for experienced technical divers comfortable with the depth and the often chilly conditions. But for those who make the effort, the Wanderer offers a profound, almost intimate, glimpse into a moment frozen in time.
