WHISPERING HOPE - Scottish West Coast

The *Whispering Hope* isn't a deep dive, sitting almost entirely within recreational limits, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it's easy pickings. This old fishing vessel, sunk back in '91, offers some cracking penetration opportunities, if you're qualified and the conditions are right. We love exploring the wheelhouse, it’s still relatively intact, and the deck machinery is a fantastic canvas for anemones and hydroids. Look for squat lobsters tucked into every crevice, and the resident conger eels are usually pretty visible, peeking out from behind bulkheads. Our favourite part is the stern, where the prop is often silhouetted against the ambient light, creating a truly atmospheric photo opportunity. We'd suggest timing your dive for slack water; the currents here can be a bit frisky, making entries and exits a lot more work than they need to be. Visibility can vary wildly, as is often the case in Scotland, but even on an average day, the *Whispering Hope* has a certain charm, especially when the light filters down through the kelp forest that has grown around her masts. This is a brilliant wreck for divers who appreciate the history and the slow colonisation of steel by the sea.
