Wreck of Alfred And Emma - Scottish West Coast

Dropping onto the Alfred and Emma is like stepping back in time, then watching nature reclaim it. We found ourselves descending into the gloom of the Scottish West Coast, and the wreck slowly materialised, a ghostly skeleton on the seabed. This isn't one of those wrecks picked clean by time or salvagers. The steamship sits largely intact, upright, and that's what makes it so special. You can trace the deck, pick out the superstructure, and even peer into the cargo holds. We love seeing the way the current has draped kelp over the metal, creating these living curtains that sway and reveal glimpses of the ship’s interior. Cod and wrasse dart in and out of every nook and cranny, and we’ve spotted dogfish tucked into sandy patches beside the hull. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and don't mind a bit of a chill; the visibility can vary, but on a good day, the details are incredible. Go early to avoid any boat traffic.
