Wreck of Annis Morella - Scottish West Coast

The Annis Morella, an iron-hulled steamer from the late 19th century, sits upright in the Scottish gloom. We love a wreck with character, and this one delivers with its upright mast still reaching towards the surface. Drop down and you’ll often find plumose anemones blooming like alien flowers, softening the harsh lines of the metal. Exploring the cargo holds feels like stepping back in time, especially when the light catches the rust just right. We’ve seen conger eels coiled in the deeper sections, thick as a diver's thigh, and shoals of saithe darting through the superstructure. Visibility can be a bit of a lottery here, classic Scottish diving, but on a good day, the ambiance is incredible. It’s definitely a dive for those who appreciate history and the rugged beauty of cold-water wrecks, rather than just colourful fish. Go when the tides are slack; it makes getting around the wreck much easier.
