Wreck of Bickley - Scottish West Coast

The Wreck of Bickley holds a special place for us on the Scottish West Coast. It’s not about tropical colours here, but a stark, dramatic beauty. Dropping onto the deck of this steamer, you immediately feel the history, the cold embrace of the Atlantic. We love how the metalwork, twisted and broken, creates these dark caverns and overhangs, perfect for exploring. Look closely and you’ll find plump plumose anemones clinging to every surface, their feathery white tentacles swaying with the gentle surge. We always suggest going in late spring or early summer; the visibility tends to be at its best, often pushing 10 metres, which is grand for these parts. Keep an eye out for curious wrasse darting between the plates, and we’ve spotted the occasional conger eel peeking from a dark hole. The Bickley isn’t a deep dive, making it accessible to most competent wreck divers who are comfortable with the chill and the reduced light. It's a proper adventure, a real piece of maritime heritage waiting to be discovered.
