Wreck of Cara - Scottish West Coast

The Cara is a proper Scottish wreck dive, and we rate it highly for a reason. Sitting upright and remarkably intact, she feels like she just went down yesterday, not decades ago. You’ll find her just a short boat ride from Craobh Haven, and the diving itself, for a wreck, is surprisingly accessible. The wheelhouse is still there, for instance, and you can poke your head into some of the cargo holds, imagining what she might have carried. We’ve had some fantastic dives here, often spotting conger eels lurking in the deeper sections and lobsters making themselves at home in the nooks and crannies. The Cara just has a real character to her. We’d suggest diving this one on a slack tide, which generally means better visibility and less struggle against the often-strong currents that define much of the west coast. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and a bit of adventure, rather than just colourful fish. Expect cool water, but if you’re properly kitted out, the rewards are worth it.
