Wreck of Douro - Scottish West Coast

The Douro wreck off the Scottish West Coast is one of those dives that sticks with you. It’s a proper steamer, big and broken, lying on its side. Drop down and you’re immediately into a scene of twisted metal, boilers, and plates strewn across the seabed. We love picking through the debris, seeing how the wreck has settled over time. What really sells the Douro for us isn't just the history, it’s the way the cold water marine life has absolutely colonised it. Ling, conger eels, and monstrous crabs seem to be everywhere, tucked into every nook and cranny. Keep an eye out for the odd wolf fish too, they're surprisingly common here. The stern section is particularly interesting, with a propeller still largely intact – a great photo opportunity if the visibility is playing ball. This dive suits experienced cold water wreck divers who appreciate the atmospheric gloom and the rugged beauty of a truly historical wreck. It’s a challenging dive, often with a bit of current and always chilly, but deeply rewarding.
