Wreck of Ellen - Scottish West Coast

The *Ellen* isn’t just a wreck; it’s a time capsule, settled deep on the Scottish seabed. We love how the hull is still largely intact, giving you a real sense of its former glory as you descend into the gloom. What we really appreciate here is the way the cold water has preserved so much detail, from the riveted plates to the faint outlines of where the deckhouse once stood. This isn’t a colourful tropical reef, but the sheer scale and history of the *Ellen* are utterly captivating. Expect limited visibility, often around 5-10 metres, so good buoyancy and a strong torch are essential. We'd suggest timing your dive for slack water; the currents here can be a bit frisky otherwise. Look closely, and you’ll find the wreck is now home to an unexpected community of marine life – we’ve often spotted conger eels peeking out from darkened compartments and nudibranchs grazing on the rusty metalwork. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and the quiet drama of a ship reclaimed by the sea.
