Wreck of Fox - Scottish West Coast

We’ll be honest, the Scottish West Coast isn’t for everyone. But for those who embrace cooler water and the raw beauty of a proper wreck, the Fox is a fantastic find. Dropping onto her bow, the sheer scale of the trawler hits you immediately – she’s upright and largely intact, almost like she just decided to settle down for a nap on the seabed. We love picking our way through her superstructure, feeling the shift in temperature as you duck into the wheelhouse, and poking around the stern where the propeller blades are still clearly defined, now thick with plumose anemones swaying in the gentle surge. Visibility here can be surprisingly good on a calm day, and the ambient light filtering through the green water gives the wreck an almost ethereal glow, especially when schools of pollock flit through the old fishing gear. This isn't a site for beginners, but for experienced wreck divers, it's a deeply satisfying explore, offering a genuine sense of history and the silent transformation of steel into a living reef. Our tip: go on a rising tide for the best chance of settled water and clearer views.
