Wreck of Gloriana - Scottish West Coast

Diving the *Gloriana* on Scotland’s west coast feels like stepping into a cold, liquid time capsule. We think it’s one of the more atmospheric wrecks up here, especially when the light filters down through that often-moody green water. She lies broken but still recognisable, a cargo steamer from a bygone era, and we love picking out the details – the huge boiler, the machinery scattered around, sometimes an intact porthole if you’re lucky. The real magic happens with the marine life that’s made her home. We’ve seen conger eels that look like old ship’s rope, their heads peeking from crevices, and the dense covering of plumose anemones, especially on the more sheltered parts, is just beautiful. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and the slow creep of nature reclaiming man-made structures. Current can be a factor, so time your dive carefully with slack water, but honestly, even with a bit of a push, we’d say it’s worth it for the sheer character of the place.
