Wreck of Golden Gleam - Scottish West Coast

The Golden Gleam isn't your average wreck. We’d describe her as a ghost, a proper old girl lying deep in the Scottish gloom. She’s a trawler, sank back in the 70s, and time has just folded over her. You descend into that deep green silence, and suddenly her outline just emerges, massive and brooding. We love the way the light filters down, making the metal gleam in that peculiar Scottish way. There are holes in her deck you can fin through if you're comfortable with overhead environments, where crabs scuttle away from your torch beam. Conger eels sometimes peer out from rusted portholes, and the whole structure is draped in dead man’s fingers and hydroids. It feels like you’re exploring a forgotten world down there. This is a dive for those who appreciate the history, the quiet drama of a wreck, and don't mind the chill. If you’re into penetrating wrecks, bring a good reel and take it slow; the visibility can drop to a metre inside. Best dived on a slack tide, which can be tricky to time, but absolutely worth it.
