Wreck of Helen - Scottish West Coast

The Wreck of Helen isn't one of those wrecks that’s intact enough for much penetration, but what’s left tells a story. We love the way the jagged ribs and plates of the old iron cargo ship are completely smothered in plumose anemones, creating these soft, undulating walls of white and orange. You'll swim through the scattered debris, spotting various crabs and blennies tucked into every crevice. It’s an ideal dive for those who appreciate the historical aspect of a wreck combined with prolific cold-water marine growth, rather than just intact structures. We'd suggest going on a calm day for the best visibility, as the silty bottom can kick up pretty easily. The sheer density of the anemones here is our favourite part, it really transforms the wreck into something organic.
