Wreck of Hermann - Scottish West Coast

The Hermann, off the Scottish west coast, isn't some tropical postcard wreck. This is a proper cold-water dive, and we love it for its rugged charm. Dropping onto her bow, often shrouded in that moody green light, you immediately feel the history. She’s broken, but enough structure remains to give a real sense of her scale. We’ve spent hours poking around the stern section, where the prop shaft is still visible, and the huge boiler is a fantastic focal point, absolutely bristling with plumose anemones – pure white against the dark metal. This isn’t about big pelagics; it’s about the smaller, fascinating residents. Ling often lurk in the deeper holds, and we’ve spotted conger eels peeking out from pipes more than once. The wreck itself has become an artificial reef, with dead man’s fingers adding pops of orange to the metal. It’s a dive for those who appreciate atmospheric exploration and the resilience of life in colder seas. Don't rush it, just drift and observe.
