Wreck of Hmt Dunraven Castle - Scottish West Coast

The Dunraven Castle is one of our favourite Scottish wrecks, a proper dive if you like your history and a bit of a challenge. Dropping onto her deck, you can almost hear the ghost of the Atlantic, the cold embrace of the water reminding you this isn't some tropical postcard dive. What we love about her is the way the Scottish weather has shaped her, she’s become part of the seabed. Keep an eye out for the resident wrasse darting between the broken plating and the often surprisingly large lobsters tucked into every nook. She’s not for the faint of heart, or those new to temperate water diving. Visibility can be temperamental, shifting from a decent 10 metres to a silty five, so good buoyancy is key. If you're patient, and willing to work with the conditions, the Dunraven Castle rewards you with a real sense of exploration. We’d suggest going at slack water, it makes navigating the larger sections, like the engine room, much more enjoyable, letting you really soak in the atmosphere of this old girl.
