Wreck of Hopewell - Scottish West Coast

Diving the Hopewell is less about pristine corals and more about history and atmosphere, and we absolutely love it for that. This isn't a sunny Caribbean reef, so adjust your expectations. What you get here is a proper North Atlantic wreck dive, moody and surprisingly full of character. Descending onto the Hopewell, you’ll find a substantial fishing trawler, pretty broken up but still recognisable, resting on a silty seabed. We particularly enjoy the way the kelp fronds sway over the deck, giving the whole scene an eerie, almost ghostly feel, especially when the light is muted. Keep an eye out for the resident wrasse darting between the metalwork and the scuttling crabs making homes in every nook and cranny. This dive suits those who appreciate a challenging, rewarding dive with a genuine sense of exploration, rather than a leisurely drift. We’d suggest going at slack water; the currents here can be a real nuisance otherwise, making the entry and exit a lot more effort than it needs to be.
