Wreck of Midas - Scottish West Coast

Diving the Midas is a proper Scottish adventure, the kind that leaves you buzzing long after you’ve toweled off. We love a good wreck, and this one, sitting upright with a slight list to port, feels like stepping back in time. You descend into that distinctive green-blue water, and the superstructure just materialises, often wreathed in schools of saithe that swirl around the mast. Our favourite part has to be exploring the bridge area; the wheelhouse is still largely intact, and peering inside, you can almost imagine the crew. Look closely, and you’ll spot plumose anemones clinging to every surface, their white tentacles swaying with the gentle surge. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and the way the sea reclaims things. Just be prepared for the chill; a drysuit is a non-negotiable here, and we’d suggest timing your dive for slack water to really enjoy the penetration into the holds, where conger eels often lurk in the shadows. Visibility can vary wildly, so pick a calm day if you can.
