Wreck of Nugget - Scottish West Coast

The Nugget isn't about tropical colours. It's a gritty, proper Scottish wreck dive, and we love it for that. This isn't a dive you rush. You descend into the often murky green, the ship slowly resolving into a ghostly shape on the seabed, usually around 20-30 metres, though precise depth can vary with the tide. We've spent hours here, meticulously exploring the scattered remains of this old cargo steamer. The bow section is our favourite, often home to decent-sized conger eels peeking from the shadows, their thick bodies camouflaged against the rust. Keep an eye out for velvet swimming crabs scuttling over the corroded plating and wolf-fish lurking in the darker crevices. The holds, though collapsed in places, still offer some overhead environments for experienced wreck divers. You need to be comfortable with limited visibility and colder temperatures, but the history and atmosphere here are palpable. We always recommend bringing a good torch; it truly transforms the experience, picking out details and uncovering the resident critters. The Nugget is a dive for those who appreciate the quiet drama of a historical wreck, where nature slowly reclaims what the sea has taken.
