Wreck of Perica - Scottish West Coast

The Wreck of Perica, off Scotland's west coast, isn't always the easiest dive, but it's one we always come back to. We love the feeling of descent here, dropping through that Scottish green light, knowing you're about to meet a piece of history. This old steamship lies well broken up, scattered across the seabed, but the boiler and engine room are still very recognisable, and our favourite spots to poke around. Visibility can swing wildly, so pick your day, ideally slack tide for the best chance to really soak it in. You’ll find plenty of plumose anemones clinging to the metalwork, their white tentacles almost glowing in the dim light, and dead man's fingers in vibrant oranges and yellows. Look out for the wrasse darting between the plates, and the occasional grumpy lobster tucked into a crevice. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the quiet dignity of a wreck and the resilient life that makes it home, rather than a pristine coral garden. We’d suggest it for experienced cold water divers comfortable with variable conditions and keen to explore a genuinely atmospheric site.
