Wreck of Phantom - Scottish West Coast

The Phantom, sitting upright on the seabed, is a classic west coast wreck. It’s a trawler, maybe 30 metres long, and while the stern is pretty broken up, we love how intact the bow still is, rearing out of the gloom. Swim into the hold, careful of the silty bottom, and imagine the cargo she once carried. Out on the deck, you’ll likely spot squat lobsters tucked into every crevice and a decent-sized ballan wrasse or two nosing around the superstructure. This isn't a colourful coral dive, but for sheer atmosphere and a proper sense of history, it’s brilliant. The current can pick up a bit here, so we’d suggest timing your dive for slack water, making the penetration much more comfortable. It’s perfect for divers who appreciate the ghostly quiet of a metal hulk and the subtle beauty of temperate marine life.
