Wreck of Restless - Scottish West Coast

Diving the Wreck of Restless off Scotland's west coast feels like stepping into a cold, dark history book. She’s a trawler, we think, though the exact identity is still a bit of a mystery, which only adds to the allure. We love that she sits upright, mostly intact, an impressive skeleton against the silty seabed. You'll find her superstructure still proud, offering swim-throughs into the wheelhouse and engine room where light filters in through broken portholes, illuminating the resident conger eels and squat lobsters. The bow still sports a winch, often draped in plumose anemones, their feathery tentacles swaying with the gentle surge. Visibility here can be a moody beast, sometimes twenty metres and glorious, sometimes a challenging five, but that just makes the sudden appearance of the mast or a gaping hold all the more dramatic. It’s a dive for those who appreciate character over colour, for wreck enthusiasts who don't mind a bit of a chill and relish exploring a piece of maritime past. We’d suggest a good torch and a keen eye for the smaller stuff – the nudibranchs and wrasse that have made this metal hulk their home.
