Wreck of Richard Roper - Scottish West Coast

The *Richard Roper* isn't your average lump of rust on the seabed. This steam trawler, lost in 1909, sits upright and largely intact, a real time capsule down there. We love dropping onto the stern, seeing the deck gun still mounted, and imagining the fishing battles it saw before its final, unexpected rest. You can fin your way through the holds, watch for the resident conger eels peeking from dark corners, and often spot large pollack cruising overhead. For divers who appreciate a wreck with a story, where the structure is still clearly defined, this is a belter. Visibility can be a bit variable, as it often is on the Scottish West Coast, but on a good day, the green light filtering through highlights the intricate deck machinery and the anemones that now carpet almost every surface. It’s a site that rewards a slow fin, really taking in the details rather than just rushing through. We’d suggest keeping an eye on the tides for the slackest water to get the most out of your bottom time here.
