Wreck of St Barachan - Scottish West Coast

Now, the St Barachan. This isn’t a warm water drift, obviously, but for those who appreciate a proper wreck dive, she’s a beauty. We love this site for its genuine sense of history and the way the Scottish waters have claimed her. Dropping down, you’ll find her resting on a silty seabed, pretty intact in places, with plenty of nooks and crannies to poke your torch into. Keep an eye out for conger eels, they seem to thrive here, and the shoals of pollock are often thick around the superstructure. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration, peering into the hull, imagining her final moments. Our pick for a good day here is often just after high tide, when the current tends to be at its slackest, making for a much more relaxed dive around the decks. Bring a good light, the ambient can be moody, but that’s part of the charm.
