Wreck of Stella Spei - Scottish West Coast

The Stella Spei, a fishing trawler that met its end in the Sound of Mull, is one of our favourites for a proper Scottish wreck dive. She sits upright, largely intact, and just shallow enough that you can spend a good long bottom time exploring her. We often find the wheelhouse a great spot to start, looking down into the holds where schools of small pollock weave through the shadows. It’s the sheer density of plumose anemones that really makes the Stella Spei pop though. They coat nearly every surface, creating this surreal, feathery landscape that pulses gently in the current. Look closely, and you’ll spot velvet crabs tucked into crevices and ling lurking under plating. We’d suggest diving this one on a slack tide for the best visibility; the Sound can get a bit frisky, but when it calms, the wreck truly shines. This site is brilliant for divers who appreciate history and the way nature reclaims man-made structures.
