Wreck of Sutherland - Scottish West Coast

The Sutherland wreck on Scotland's west coast is a dive that really sticks with you. Dropping down, you’re often met with that classic Scottish green water, but once your eyes adjust, the wreck slowly materialises, a proper steel ghost. We love picking our way through the superstructure, feeling the history in the corroded metal, imagining the life on board before she went down. The resident conger eels are usually pretty bold here, peering out from gaps in the plates, and you’ll often spot decent-sized wrasse darting in and out of the hold, probably following a decent scallop haul. It’s a dive for those who appreciate wrecks with a story, not just a pretty reef, and it suits divers comfortable with colder water and a bit of current. Visibility can be hit or miss, but when it’s good, the sheer scale of the wreck is impressive, making it one of our favourite UK wreck dives.
