Wreck of Teunika - Scottish West Coast

The Teunika is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to on the Scottish West Coast. It’s got a genuine character to it, lying pretty upright, which makes exploration straightforward and fun. We particularly love the way the light filters through the superstructure on a bright day, illuminating the brass and the pipes, painting stripes on the schools of pollock that hang motionless inside. You’ll find a surprising amount of detail still intact, from the large capstan on the bow to the machinery in the engine room – just be mindful of silting. For us, the real magic happens around the stern, where the prop is still in place, covered in dead man’s fingers and anemones. Look for the lobsters tucked into every crevice, and the wrasse that dart in and out of the plating. It’s a site that rewards multiple dives; you’ll always spot something new. We’d suggest diving it on a slack tide, if you can time it right, to really appreciate the scale and the history without fighting a current.
