Wreck of Thetis - Scottish West Coast

The Thetis, a trawler resting upright on a sandy seabed, is a classic Scottish wreck dive. We love this site for its accessibility and the sheer volume of life that’s made it home. Drop down and you’re immediately enveloped by shoals of saithe, often so thick you feel like you’re swimming through a living curtain. Ling and conger eels peer from every shadowed doorway and bulkhead, while crabs scuttle across the corroded decking. It’s a wonderfully atmospheric dive, particularly on a day with good visibility when the light filters down through the kelp from above. Our favourite part is exploring the intact superstructure, weaving through the wheelhouse and engine room where the machinery is still recognisable. The current can pick up, so we’d suggest timing your dive for slack water, making the penetration much more comfortable. This is a brilliant dive for anyone keen on exploring a proper, historic wreck without extreme depth.
