Wreck of Valkyrien - Scottish West Coast

The Valkyrien isn't just a hunk of metal on the seabed, it’s a proper time capsule, a real classic of Scottish wreck diving. When we drop down onto her, often in that surprisingly clear, green light the West Coast delivers, you feel the history. This Norwegian steamer, sunk way back in 1900, sits upright and largely intact, her bow pointing towards the surface, creating these fantastic swim-throughs into the cargo holds. We love finning through the gloom there, the light shafts cutting through the decks, illuminating the nudibranchs clinging to the bulkheads and the squat lobsters peeking from cracks. She’s become a home for so much life; shoals of pollock swirl around the mast, conger eels peek from pipes, and if you look closely, you’ll find jewel anemones exploding in colour on the deeper sections. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration rather than rushing about, perfect for those who appreciate wrecks with a story and a chance to truly immerse themselves in a bit of maritime past.
