Featherings Reef - Nova Scotia

We’ve spent a lot of time diving Nova Scotia, and Featherings Reef consistently ranks high on our list for a very specific reason: the rays. Seriously, where else can you reliably spot a Starry Ray cruising over the reef like it owns the place? The water here can be a bit bracing, even in summer, so a good drysuit is non-negotiable, but the reward is worth it. Our favourite dives at Featherings are usually in the late morning, after the initial morning boat traffic has settled. That's when we've had our best luck with harbour porpoises making quick passes, and the light penetration brings out the subtle colours of the corals. Keep an eye out for American Lobsters tucked into crevices; they’re enormous here. You might even hear the distant echo of a minke whale if you’re lucky, a deep thrum through the water. It’s a proper temperate reef experience, raw and full of life that thrives in colder seas. Featherings Reef is perfect for divers who appreciate the unique beauty of Atlantic marine life and don't mind a bit of chill. You'll glide past corals, searching for the impressive Starry Rays and the more elusive Smooth Skates. It’s a site for those who value genuine exploration over easy conditions, offering a true taste of Nova Scotia’s underwater world.
