EVITA TH (PROBABLY) - Tyre

The Evita TH wreck in Tyre is a curious beast. This motor vessel went down in 1979, capsizing at the quay, likely due to water leaking in while she was unmanned and under arrest. Now she lies in a paltry 5 metres of water, making her one of the most accessible wrecks we know. Don’t expect a deep, dramatic dive, but do expect history you can almost touch. We love the sheer intimacy of this site. You’re practically eyeball-to-eyeball with history. Being so shallow, sunlight pours in, illuminating the hull and superstructure with a silvery sheen. Visibility here can vary, but on a good day, it's like swimming through an open-air museum. Small fish dart in and out of her collapsed sections; our favourite is watching the damselfish hover near what would have been her bridge, totally unfazed by divers. It’s an ideal spot for new wreck divers or photographers wanting endless bottom time to compose shots. Go early, before the midday sun gets too harsh on the surface.
