REYNA FILIPINA (PROBABLY) - Subic Bay

The Reyna Filipina is one of those Subic Bay wrecks we keep coming back to, mainly because it’s so accessible and just a really fun dive. She broke her moorings during Typhoon Irma back in ‘81, ending up capsized about 150 metres off the cultural centre seawall. At a maximum depth of just 7 metres, this is a perfect spot for newer wreck divers or photographers wanting long bottom times. You'll spend most of your dive exploring the Reyna Filipina’s massive hull, now lying completely upside down. It’s huge, 120 metres long, and the sheer scale is impressive even in the shallows. We love poking around the prop shaft and the rudder, often finding small groupers tucked away. The interior is largely inaccessible now, but the exterior offers plenty to see. Look for schools of juvenile snappers darting between the plates, and we often spot lionfish perched on the highest points, blending in with the rust. On a sunny day, the light plays beautifully through the shallow water, illuminating the hull and making the reds and oranges of the sponges really pop. It’s a completely different vibe from the deeper wrecks in the bay, much more relaxed and vibrant.
