Stratmann Wreck + dinghy mooring - St. Vincent

The Stratmann Wreck in St. Vincent is one of those sites we always try to hit, especially if we have newer wreck divers on board. We don’t know much about its history, but it’s a small, intact cargo vessel, sitting upright in about 15 metres. That makes for some seriously relaxed bottom times. You can swim right into the cargo hold, and it feels like stepping into a dimly lit room, the light filtering in from above. Look up, and you might catch the glint of silversides schooling, or a school of jacks swirling. Around the exterior, the hull is thick with sponges and colourful hydroids. We’ve seen huge spotted goatfish rooting around the sand nearby, and plenty of hamlets darting in and out of the superstructure. The dinghy mooring adds a nice little extra detail, often attracting schools of bristly herring. It's not a deep dive, making it perfect for photographers or anyone who just wants a leisurely exploration. Our favourite spot is usually the bow, where a pair of large angelfish seem to have taken up permanent residence. This wreck is less about grand scale and more about intimate discovery.
