Lighthouse Reef is where you go when you’re ready to see Belize’s Big Show. We all know the Great Blue Hole is the headliner, and yes, it’s a geological marvel, dropping to 125 meters, but honestly, it’s the sheer scale of the stalactites, more than the marine life, that makes it special. For us, the real magic here is Half Moon Caye Wall. It’s a spectacular drop-off, the kind where you drift along and just let your eyes wander into the blue. We’ve seen incredible schools of Reef Silversides here, shimmering like liquid mercury, and the resident Triggerfish are always darting about. Currents can be strong, especially around the exposed points, so you'll want to be comfortable with drift diving. Visibility is generally excellent, often pushing 30 meters, especially during the drier months from November to May. We’d suggest an early start to beat the day-trippers, giving you a chance to truly appreciate the quiet grandeur of these walls. Keep an eye out for the elusive Saddle Stargazer buried in the sand flats near the shallower reef tops; they’re always a fun spot.

3 Amigos
3 Amigos, out in Lighthouse Reef, is one of those deeper wall dives we often gravitate towards. You're looking for reef sharks patrolling the drop-off here, along with the usual reef fish navigating the crevices. Baker's Drop
Baker's Drop, right off the lodge at Lighthouse Reef, is a solid afternoon dive if you're looking for an easy wall. You descend to a gentle shelf around 50 feet, a nice depth for a relaxed bottom time. We've often seen juvenile rock beauties darting between the thin leaf lettuce coral, and if you keep an eye on the blue, there’s a good chance you’ll spot a pair of spotted eagle rays gliding past. Calabush Cut

We’ve always found the visibility here reliable, often pushing past 30 meters on a good day, making the wall’s sheer drop quite impressive. Look for barrel sponges clinging to the overhangs and keep an eye out in the blue for reef sharks cruising by. It’s a pretty straightforward wall dive, good for any certified diver looking for a relaxed drift and consistent encounters with the usual Caribbean suspects.
Chris s Chimney
Chris’s Chimney is a deep pinnacle dive within Lighthouse Reef, making it a good spot for advanced divers. We descend to find a swim-through chimney feature that opens up to the reef wall. Look for larger pelagics cruising by, often a decent chance to spot Caribbean reef sharks and eagle rays here. It’s a site that rewards those comfortable with deeper profiles.
Coco Point
Coco Point, on the eastern side of Lighthouse Reef, offers a relaxed drift dive. We often see reef sharks patrolling the drop-off here, alongside schools of horse-eye jacks. It’s a good spot for divers who enjoy a gentle current and prefer watching larger pelagics rather than seeking out tiny critters. We'd suggest this for anyone looking for an easy, classic Belize wall dive.
Colusium

Eagle Ray Wall
Eagle Ray Wall, out in Lighthouse Reef, is one of those deeper sites we keep coming back to. We typically start around 30 feet, then follow the sheer wall down to a ledge sitting between 115 and 145 feet. Down there, you’ll see some impressive black coral trees, really lush and old. We often find dense shoals of snapper and jacks hanging out in the blue. The real draw, though, is right there in the name: those graceful eagle rays often glide by. Spend your safety stop exploring the reef top in the 15-18 foot shallows; it’s surprisingly rich in smaller stuff – flamingo tongue cowries, nudibranchs, and plenty of little reef fish. It’s a good choice for divers comfortable with a bit more depth who appreciate both big pelagics and intricate macro life.
Fabian s Roost
Fabian's Roost offers a solid dive along Lighthouse Reef. Expect to drift past the wall, keeping an eye out for larger pelagics moving in the blue. We often spot Caribbean reef sharks cruising by and schools of horse-eye jacks making an appearance. It’s a good choice for divers who enjoy wall dives and a chance at bigger fish.
Grand Bogue
Grand Bogue at Lighthouse Reef offers a deep wall dive, perfect for experienced divers looking to explore beyond the shallows. The reef starts around 10 meters before dropping dramatically into the blue. We've often seen reef sharks patrolling the edge, and the occasional eagle ray glides by in the current. It’s a site for those who appreciate dramatic topography and pelagic encounters.
Great Blue Hole
We often find ourselves back at Captain Don's Habitat, not just for the ease of it, but for that specific blend of quiet observation and gentle discovery. Dropping in, you're immediately enveloped by the sheer density of fish. Schools of bluestriped grunts mill about, a living curtain of silver and yellow, while parrotfish, chunky and iridescent, chomp audibly on the coral, a constant soundtrack to the dive. What we really love here is the macro life, especially if you take your time. Look closely in the coral heads for those tiny, electric-blue bluegold gobies, or the surprisingly camouflaged island gobies peeking from their crevices. The blushing star coral formations are particularly robust and healthy, providing shelter for everything from yellowline arrow crabs to the occasional Caribbean reef squid hovering with mesmerizing colour changes. For a night dive, this spot truly comes alive. We’ve seen spotted soapfish out hunting, and the hawksbill turtles often settle into the reef for the night, unbothered by a gentle beam. It’s a calm, shallow dive, perfect for long bottom times and honing your observation skills.
