Papetoai Aquarium - Moorea & Tahiti

Sampler, way up on Klein Bonaire's northern tip, is a site we keep coming back to. It’s a drift dive, usually, and a relaxed one at that. You drop in, often on a slight current that nudges you gently along the reef wall. The corals here are in really good shape, big mounds of grooved brain coral and intricate maze corals. We particularly love the schooling blue parrotfish. They’re everywhere, grazing off the reef, sometimes in groups of a dozen or more, and they don’t seem to mind divers much. Keep an eye out for the dusky blennies poking their heads from tiny holes. The reef slopes down to about 20 metres, then levels off into a sandy bottom. Visibility is reliably excellent here, often well over 20 metres, so you get a great sense of the scale. Our top tip: go early. It can get busy later in the day with all the dive boats. This site is perfect for those who want a long, easy drift and enjoy seeing a healthy reef with plenty of fish life.
