ELDRID - Lofoten Islands

Eldrid in the Lofoten Islands isn't a deep dive, but it's one of our favourite wreck explorations in Norway for sheer atmosphere. This old steamship went down in 1940, and she now rests upright at 25 metres, quite exposed to the elements. The visibility here can be surprisingly good, especially on a calm day, giving you a chance to appreciate her structure from a distance before you get close. We love finning slowly along her decks, poking our lights into the cargo holds, where you might spot a wolfish eyeing you from the gloom. The stern is particularly photogenic, often draped in kelp and anemones, with schools of saithe swirling above the mast. It's a proper cold-water wreck, with that characteristic rust-coloured palette and a quiet sense of history. We'd suggest timing your dive for a slack tide; the currents can pick up here, making it a bit more of a workout than it needs to be. This site is perfect for divers who appreciate historical wrecks and don't mind the chill, offering a real insight into the Lofoten's wartime past.
