FLYGG 1 - Lofoten Islands

Flygg 1 is one of our favourite dives in Lofoten, purely for its sheer convenience and the way the wreck has settled. This motor vessel went down in 1972, leaving her sitting perfectly upright in just 10 metres of water. We love a shallow wreck; it means more bottom time, and the natural light really brings out the colours of the kelp and anemones that have utterly taken over the hull. You'll spend most of your dive circling her 22-metre length, peering into the pilothouse and engine room. It’s a great little wreck for newer cold-water divers – no strong currents to worry about, and it's easy to navigate around the various compartments. We've often seen plump cod lurking in the shadows, and the rock gunnel are endlessly entertaining as they wriggle through the cracks. If you're lucky, you might spot a wolfish tucked away, though they’re usually pretty shy. We’d suggest going in the late morning, as the sun gets higher, which really helps illuminate the deck.
