HNoMS Odin - Lofoten Islands

Diving the HNoMS Odin is a proper adventure, not just another wreck dive. This isn't a site for beginners; we’d suggest you need some decent cold water experience and a comfort level with deeper dives. What you'll find at 72 metres is a destroyer, mostly intact, sitting upright on the seabed. It went down in 1940 during the German invasion and you can still feel the history. The sheer size of the Odin is what grabs you. We love dropping down and seeing the deck guns still pointing skyward, the bridge structure fairly well preserved. Sometimes, if the light catches it right through the deep green water, you can almost imagine it still moving. Over the decades, it's become a home for all sorts of cold-water critters. Expect to see wolf fish peering out from nooks and crannies, and quite a few large cod swimming in and around the superstructure. The visibility here can be excellent, particularly outside of the summer months, making the descent feel epic. It’s a dive that rewards careful planning and good buoyancy, letting you really appreciate the scale and the quiet dignity of a vessel from another era. Our tip: make sure your guide knows the interior sections if you’re looking to penetrate; some areas are still accessible for the appropriately trained.
