JOHAN SENIOR - Lofoten Islands

The Johan Senior sits in just five metres of water, a motor vessel that went down in 1991. We love how accessible it is, perfect for an hour’s shallow exploration. You’ll find the wreck broken into several large sections, scattered across a rocky bottom. The propeller is a real highlight, a huge bronze beast with a few resident blennies peeking out from behind the blades. Look for the engine block, too, a jumble of metal now completely covered in white plumose anemones, waving gently with the surge. This isn’t a colourful, tropical dive, but the light filtering through the cold, green water gives it a real atmospheric feel. It’s perfect for new wreck divers or anyone who just wants a relaxed potter around a piece of history. Visibility averages around 10-15 metres, but always check conditions before you go. If there’s a strong north-westerly, the site can get a bit churned up. We’d suggest going at high tide for the calmest water.
